The project tackles the complexity of the context of the former Tobacco Factory in Turin as an opportunity to generate a new ecosystem of interconnected public spaces, buildings and green areas, capable of generating new urban dynamics so as to enhance the complex’s attractive capacities, making it a new node in the city. The entire renovated complex is therefore presented as a continuous system of interconnected squares, courtyards, terraces and gardens that respond to the different needs of future users by uniquely characterising each space and relating both dimensionally and functionally with the existing buildings, the new ones and the natural context.

In this sense, the entire project also acts as an urban filter that mitigates the built surroundings with the more naturalistic area of the Po embankment, creating a gradual transition between two previously disconnected and separate surroundings. The main axis of the complex is therefore no longer longitudinal to the architecture of the Manifattura Tabacchi, but transversal to it, thus making it more permeable and open to use by the population. The main square of the new complex embraces the city and gives it a visual opening onto the Regio Parco and the Po valley.
