50 Shades of Green

50 Shades of Green is a design reflection aimed at rethinking the relationship between the city and the countryside, taking the opportunity from the reconfiguration of the road system linking the built-up area of Putignano and the Acquedotto Pugliese cycle track. Starting from the observation of the existence of infinite intermediate gradations of transitional landscapes between the urban and the rural environment, 50 Shades of Green explores the role of each of them, aiming at enhancing their environmental and ecological, but also cultural, social and economic value.

50 Shades of Green proposes concrete actions to valorise the synergy between urban and rural, reinterpreting the ancient balance that governed the relations between built-up areas and the surrounding countryside, in a logic of mutual benefit that allows for the integration of the ecological, identity and social values of the rural world within the urban context, and, vice versa, for the introduction of new ways of using the rural environment linked to civic and cultural uses in the extra-urban areas. The proposal tackles the design of the green axis connecting the city of Putignano and the Aqueduct Cycle Route with a territorial vision of a vast area, which contextualises the intervention within a strategy of promoting slow mobility that is in fact configuring a network of connections between inter-municipal inhabited centres, places of interest and assets of historical, architectural and natural value, with a very high development potential.
