The project interprets the client’s wishes to become an urban node that connects the different complexities of Scandicci. The intervention is at the same time a school, a series of connections, an urban park, a pedestrian area, a cultural centre, a sports area, a recreational space, a community place. All these different needs are organised along two orthogonal lines. The new school E. Fermi school is located at the intersection of these two new green axes, becoming the fulcrum of the area. The E.Fermi school complex is thus both a school and a community centre. The building consists of four main volumes that materialise in architecture the pedagogical structure: the agora, the school, the auditorium and the gymnasium. The central volume, the agora, acts as the connector between all the numerous activities; this acts as a sort of filter for the various realities of the school and allows them to be better articulated. It also helps control access and distribute flows, keeping school equipment and pupils safe when the spaces are also used by citizens. In fact, the school is only accessible through the Agora building, while the gymnasium and auditorium also have direct access to the street, so that they can function independently.
