Arts School Hub and Square

Location: Foggia, IT

Year: 2023

Type: International Competition

Status: Completed

Team: Flavio Martella, Maria Vittoria Tesei

The new arts centre is developed in such a way as to create a square for the population, following two sides of the plot perimeter. This establishes a direct relationship of artistic activities with public ones, creating new synergies and enhancing the cultural role of the new intervention. The relationship between the square and the arts centre allows the entire project to be activated at the same time, making the area always vital. This intention is also evident in the study of the elevations and geometries, where each element has different characteristics, searching dynamism.
All the architectural volumes of the intervention are designed to work independently of each other. The “lighthouse” is the most visible and recognisable architecture of the intervention and therefore houses all the activities aimed at the community and will be accessible from the square. The formative building, on the other hand, will occupy the entire perimeter building, opening directly onto both the square and the private garden; an independent place but in continuous relation with the collective activities of the tower and the agora. The auditorium has been designed as a flexible place open to the public, aimed at the cultural growth and at the involvement of the population to experiment new forms of sociality towards the performing arts. All three of these areas will be interconnected by a filter space that also works as a exhibition hall.
