The project for the construction of the new residences for the elderly in Fuenlabrada is based on the recovery of the existing school building, which is transformed into the central element of the new architectural organisation. The waste materials from the transformation process of the existing building are reused in the construction of the new residences, using a circular approach that takes advantage of all the elements of the school for a new and articulated architecture capable of responding to the vital needs of the elderly. The decision to add two new architectural bodies responds to the need to provide comfortable, accessible and safe housing for the growing elderly population, while maintaining a link with the local built heritage. The intervention aims to create a residential complex that promotes dignity, inclusion and well-being for the elderly through sustainable and functional solutions that maximise bioclimatic efficiency, spatial quality and minimise land consumption. The project is developed around a horizontal, accessible and modular configuration, capable of adapting to both the individual needs and the social dynamics of the residents. All aspects of the project have been designed to balance functional needs and quality of life, focusing on the well-being and comfort of the residents. A project that develops around both the life cycle of materials and people.
